
Abiodun A. Denloye is a Nigerian academic and Professor in the Department of Zoology and Environmental Biology at Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos, Nigeria. In July 2023, he was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH). He specialises in Medical and Applied Entomology, with a strong professional focus on applied entomology and pest management, as well as Biosafety and Biosecurity Risk (Biorisk) Management.
He obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) degree from Lagos State University and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Prior to his full-time academic career, Professor Denloye worked as a Reporter/Researcher and progressed to the position of Associate Editor with the defunct Concord Group, where he covered science, health, and environmental issues. This experience significantly shaped his interdisciplinary outlook and commitment to effective science communication.
Over the past two decades, Professor Denloye has collaborated extensively with academics across diverse disciplines, including Fisheries, Chemistry, and Botany at LASU and other universities. He has also worked closely with researchers at the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), Lagos, and the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), Abuja. His research interests include the insecticidal potency of plant-derived natural products, environmental toxicology, pollution studies, and the management of biomedical waste.
Professor Denloye is a pioneer in biosafety and biosecurity advocacy in Nigeria and made significant contributions to the formation of the Nigerian Biological Safety Association (NiBSA) in 2010. He served as the pioneer Secretary of the Association, later as Vice President, and currently serves as its President. He is a highly respected biosafety and biosecurity expert, certified as an International Foundation for Biosafety Associations (IFBA) Certified Biorisk Management Professional, IFBA Certified Biosecurity Professional, and Certified Biorisk Management Trainer, with access to the Global Biorisk Management Curriculum (GBRMC) Library. He is also a certified Trainer and Shipper of Biological Samples.
In addition, Professor Denloye is well versed in the scientific and regulatory frameworks guiding biosafety decision-making on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), having undertaken specialised training at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Trieste, Italy.
Professor Denloye’s commitment to service is reflected in his passion for creating platforms that empower others and transform challenges into opportunities. Outside academia, he enjoys birding, reading, writing, and travelling. He is a Fellow of the Entomological Society of Nigeria (FESN), Fellow of the Nigerian Biological Safety Association (FNiBSA), and Fellow of the Society for Educational Administrators of Nigeria (FSEAN)..
